Apple has sold more than 5 million iPhone 5 units since Sept 21

Apple today announced that it has old more than 5 million units of the iPhone since September 21. That means that in three days it has outsold its predecessor, the iPhone 4S during its first weekend sale last year. Apple also announced that more than 100 million iPhone units has been updated to iOS6.

The iPhone 5 was released last September 21 in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK. It will be available in 22 other countries starting September 28 including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Other countries will have the iPhone 5 hitting their store shelves before the year ends.

Actually, these figures could have been bigger if Apple’s supply of the iPhone 5 during the launch were enough. Pre-orders were quickly sold out a few hours after it was opened up in the countries mentioned. Those who were not able to order online trooped to Apple Stores and grab their iPhone 5. Hopefully, stocks in Apple Stores are not depleted yet and Apple will bring some more for online purchase.

With that said, the iPhone 5 is now the fastest selling iPhone 5 yet as it has beaten the weekend sales of the iPhone 4S. The question is, will sales continue to pile up as more countries receive their supply? Will Apple’s manufacturers be able to supply the demand for the iPhone 5?
